Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

This is the video clip of John Carpenter, trying to answer his one million question in 1999. As a matter of fact, he became the first ever person in the world to win the one million in "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" game show. And what so spectacular was, discounting his joke call to his father, he breezed through 15 questions without a single life line! No 50:50, no audience help, and no phone call. Fantastic.

By the way, the way he called his father struck many as arrogant. Haha, what says you?

Shoot! i so like this one. I have to say that it's a good twist! I would have never thought of he calling his father just to tell, not ask, that he's gonna win the million dollars! :)

I thought that was a confident, tongue-in-cheek... Dunno how you thought that was arrogant, but I liked it! Blunt and quick-witted...

Hey, I think he didn't say he thinks the guy is arrogant... He just says that many people think he's arrogant. Eerm, not good to put word in other's mouth.. :P

Ooooo...looks like CY's defender is mad here. Easy..I don't think CQ is trying to accuse CY at all.

Anyways I havent seen the video cuz I can't afford the bandwidth.

Firstly he was calling his own dad. Secondly, he was just telling his own dad that he was going to win a million dollars. In that particular situation, where he was so sure of the answer, I think he can be forgiven for a bit of arrogantness

Eric, winson: Ya, I liked it too! :D

Cheok Quen: Haha, yeah, I agree that it was kinda a tongue-in-cheek response. I didn't find it really arrogant, the opinion that he was arrogant, was what I gathered from the online discussions page in Wikipedia. However, from his behaviour though, I do have a gut feeling that he might be kinda an arrogant insufferable know-it-all... Maybe I was just too jealous.

Anonymous: Haha, don't get too worked up.. Cheok Quen didn't mean to accuse me lar.. May I know who you are?

Alvin Ooi: You still live on the dial-up? Eerm, poor thing.. Actually I am kinda same here.. Although I am using broadband, but that stupid quota is so expensive (500 MB / 30 dollars), I might as well use dial up when I want to download stuff.. :( So I don't really view much youtube stuff too, it eats up a lot of quota.

crushedguava: Haha yea, he was only calling his own father. You could see the game host's face.. so shocked! But when I replayed the video, you could see that the first time the host read out the question and answers, he smiled when he saw Richard Nixon's name. So the host could have picked up that he already knew the answer. Haha, of course I can only say that from hindsight, the first time I watched it I didn't know he knew the answer.
